Dumping Grounds, Vol. I (also, an eBay gift guide)
A weekly collection of 10 secondhand treasures across the online universe: novelty knits, leather jackets, homewares, and more.
Hi friends! Introducing my new weekly newsletter franchise, Dumping Grounds, where I’ll showcase 10 vintage/secondhand items I have been digitally hoarding recently (a.k.a. overcrowding my bookmarks folder).
This first volume consists of a hodgepodge of some amazing jackets, a novelty landscape knit, and other knick-knacks that sparked some joy in my cold, hard heart (jk, not really). I would have bought all of these myself if I weren’t fiscally constricted—so passing on the chance to y’all to own some of these vintage gems. Also doubles as a great gift guide if you need some ideas for a (read: your coolest) friend. If there’s anything specific you’re shopping for right now, let me know in the comments and I’ll share some ideas.
Scully Brown Leather Suede Fringe Beaded Jacket | $90
I actually can’t believe this leather suede jacket (chocolate brown, at that!) is only $90, fringe and beaded accents aside. Try to buy that new and you’ll at least spend 3x as much.
Hand-Painted Brass Floral Catchall | $39
If you know me at all, you know I’m obsessed with ducks right now. So it’s no surprise I was drawn to this hand-painted catchall that would be the perfect home for keys, rings, matches, etc.
1960s Tyrolean Silver Bag with Painted Portrait Motif | $125
The painted motif on this silver handbag is so unexpected and glamorous. It would look so cute with a festive dress for a holiday party, would it not?
1970s Lori Lynn Denim Belted Jacket With 55 Travel USA Patches | $149
This jacket has almost been added to my cart about every day since I discovered it. Like I’ll be sad when I see that it sells. Maybe I should actually buy this one? Talk me out of it, please…
Susan Vale England Mohair Landscape Knit Sweater | $259
I wish this wasn’t so expensive but I actually understand why it is. Look at this hand-knit masterpiece! Pastoral perfection.
M.LONDON Italian Leather Weekender | $100
Something about a leather weekender just feels so adult. I’m really interested in durable, well-made classics that I can invest in and keep for the rest of my life—the chance to imprint memories onto my belongings, so to say. This is just an amazing deal for the age and quality. All the travels this bag could join you on!
Leonardo Da Vinci Art Coffee Table Book | $36
After watching Ken Burns’ newly released Da Vinci documentary, I’m seriously obsessed and considering adding a vintage Leonardo Da Vinci book to my Christmas list.
Jon Lawrence Orange Leather Patchwork Jacket | $38
I’ve been on the lookout for suede patchwork anything but this orange jacket really spoke to me. Others in the category I like to search are patchwork leather bags and trousers.
New York ‘90s Single Stitch Tourist Tee | $30
Of course I love tourist tees (an obsession I inherited from my dad who has an entire closet devoted to his collection), but of course I also especially love New York tourist tees. I have a few myself already but this one deserves a loving home.
Listen, I don’t even wear barrettes or hair accessories in general very often but this vintage one is calling my name. How chic would it look dressed up with a velvet holiday dress or even worn with a knit fisherman sweater for more casual settings.
[Note: looks like this one already sold, so here’s another one I love.]
